Purpose

The owned-audience asset: the one channel no algorithm can take away, where the demoted-AI audience warms slowly toward a POV. LinkedIn rents attention; the newsletter owns it.

Target audience: Founder (writer/operator); future marketing hire.

1. The Publication

Name: The Workbench — a weekly letter on work, AI, and trust.
Promise (subscribe-page copy): "One essay a week on why work got scattered, why AI got demoted, and how humans and AI actually work together. From a former MuleSoft architect and CSM who lived both problems. No hype. Numbers included."
Cadence: weekly, Tuesday morning ET (the essay from Monday's write session 56 §2, newsletter-formatted).
Platform: any owned-list provider with export (the list is the asset; portability is doctrine — practice what we preach).

2. Issue Anatomy (fixed, 5-minute read)

1. The essay (the week's piece, full text — never a teaser link; respect the inbox)
2. One number (a single stat with one line of context — design-partner metric, market fact from [06], or build-log figure)
3. One thing we learned (build-in-the-open: a sentence or two, honest)
4. The quiet PS (rotating, one line: POV page / demo film / a reader-reply question)

No link roundups (undifferentiated), no product changelogs (wrong audience contract), no sponsorships (credibility is the product).

3. Growth System (compounding, not campaigns)

Sources in expected order of volume: LinkedIn posts' standing CTA ("I write about ending this weekly") · manifesto page subscribe (54 LP-1, target ≥ 8%) · website footer + essay-page subscribe blocks · webinar registrations (consent-checked, 61) · event QR (63) · launch spike (51 §4: +500 in 48h, +1,500 in 30d).

The reply loop (the newsletter's secret job): every issue ends with a real question; every reader reply gets a founder response within 48h. Replies are: essay seeds (56 §2 Fri ritual) · discovery-call candidates (the soft bridge, 57 §3) · the qualitative resonance signal no open-rate provides. A 2,000-subscriber list that replies beats a 20,000 list that doesn't.

4. List Hygiene & Standards

Double opt-in (deliverability + the trust posture) · quarterly sunset flow for 90-day non-openers ("still want this?" → clean list, honest metrics) · no purchased lists, no scraped adds, ever · every issue passes the terminology check (18 §8) · subscriber data handled per our own security story (42) — we are Customer Zero for data respect too.

5. The Long Game

The newsletter is the company's compounding asset with three future payoffs, planned now: the launch's owned audience (Layer 1 primes, Layer 2 converts 51) · the Series A narrative's demand evidence ("N thousand ICP readers, X% reply rate" — 68) · the community seed (62 launches from the most-engaged repliers, not from zero).

KPIs: net subscriber growth ≥ 10%/mo · open rate ≥ 45% (owned-audience quality bar) · reply rate ≥ 1% per issue (the metric that matters) · newsletter-sourced discovery calls (73) · list-health: < 30% 90-day-inactive.
