Definition

Business Context is THE organization's memory. The Business Context Spine IS what the system knows, what is true enough to operate on, what is happening, what was decided, and what happened next.

Personal Contextual Memory and AI Continuity Memory are NOT equal peers to Business Context. They are working continuities that serve it — personal working notes for the human, working state for the AI. Neither is organizational memory. Neither is the Spine.

The three memory domains

DomainWhat it isRelationship to Business Context
Business Context (Spine)THE organization's memory — objectives, KPIs, goals, decisions, evidence, lifecycle, outcomesTHE thing. Without it, nothing works.
Personal Contextual MemoryHuman's personal working notes, drafts, reminders, prioritiesWorking continuity that SERVES Business Context. Private by default.
AI Continuity MemoryTwin/agent working state, plans, hypotheses, session continuityWorking continuity that SERVES Business Context. Not organizational truth.

It is not

  • raw chat history;
  • agent working memory;
  • a model's prior answer;
  • an unreviewed extraction;
  • a provider-specific database;
  • a UI table;
  • a vector index by itself.

Memory becomes organizational knowledge only through governance

Source Data → Context → Work → Decision → Action → Outcome
→ Re-ingestion → Verification → Reconciliation → Governance
→ Business Context Update → Organizational Knowledge

Memory is not merely imported data. It is validated, contextualized and governed organizational knowledge that improves future work — and it lives in the Business Context Spine.

Architectural law

Memory informs Business Context; it does not silently become Business Context.
