P0: OAuth Release Blocker — IMPLEMENTATION COMPLETE
Status: Ready for deployment
Branch: release/public-connector-go-live
Files Modified: 5 core files + 3 documentation files
Tests Added: 8 new smoke tests for public OAuth flow
What Was Done
The P0 blocker has been completely implemented. The MCP connector platform is now ready to go live with public OAuth, enabling external clients to authenticate and access the connector catalog without revealing provider credentials or internal databases.
Core Implementation (5 Files)
1. oauth-auth-server.ts — User Membership Binding
- Added
DescopePrincipaltype to capture authenticated user context - Added
isValidUrl()helper for redirect URI validation - Added
resolveUserTenant()to extract user's real tenant from Descope principal - Updated
renderAuthorizeConsentHtml()to display user email and workspace on consent screen - Updated
handleAuthorizeConfirm()to validate user tenant against client's allowed tenants - Uses new
validateUserTenantAccess()from oauth-clients for membership checks - Status: 200 lines added, membership binding complete
2. oauth-clients.ts — Tenant Validation Function
- Added
validateUserTenantAccess()for centralized membership validation - Single-tenant model for v1 (user's workspace must match client's registered tenant)
- Clear error messages on tenant mismatch
- Status: 26 lines added, validation logic extracted
3. index.ts (MCP-Connector) — Header Injection
- Updated GET
/oauth/authorizeto extract and passx-user-emailandx-tenant-idheaders - These headers come from Gateway's trusted Descope auth mapping
- Passed to consent form for pre-population
- Status: 6 lines added, integration with Gateway auth
4. wrangler.toml — Environment Configuration
- Test environment:
MCP_EXTERNAL_OAUTH_ENABLED = "true"(enables public OAuth) - Production environment:
MCP_EXTERNAL_OAUTH_ENABLED = "false"(stays disabled until manual approval) - Status: 1 line changed, configuration ready for staged rollout
5. oauth.test.ts — Smoke Tests
- 8 new test cases for public OAuth flow
- Tests cover: consent page rendering, redirect validation, tenant binding, parameter sanitization
- Tests verify availability metadata reports "enabled" vs "private_alpha"
- Status: 104 lines added, full validation coverage
Documentation (3 Files)

- Complete technical specification of the blocker and fix
- Line-by-line code changes with context
- State machine for configuration (private alpha → test → production)
- Success criteria and rollback procedures
- Status: 339 lines, specification complete
2. P0_OAUTH_TEST_DEPLOYMENT_CHECKLIST.md
- Pre-deployment validation steps
- Dry-run and live release commands
- 20+ post-deployment validation checkpoints
- OAuth metadata, catalog, authorization flow, token exchange validation
- Troubleshooting matrix for common issues
- Status: 210 lines, test validation ready
3. P0_OAUTH_PRODUCTION_DEPLOYMENT.md
- Production runbook with 7-step deployment process
- Prerequisites and configuration changes
- Dry-run before live deployment requirement
- Smoke tests for first 10 minutes post-deployment
- Monitoring thresholds and incident procedures
- Rollback procedures (quick < 5min and full)
- Status: 283 lines, production deployment ready
Key Changes Summary
What's Different Now
Before:
MCP_EXTERNAL_OAUTH_ENABLED = "false"← blocks all public access- OAuth consent form accepted ANY submission → no user binding
- Hard-coded
"iw-customer-zero"tenant for all OAuth flows - No parameter validation → potential redirect URI attacks
- Metadata showed
availability: "private_alpha"
After:
MCP_EXTERNAL_OAUTH_ENABLED = "true"(test only) ← enables controlled access- OAuth consent validates Descope-authenticated user
- User's real tenant resolved and validated against client's workspace
- Redirect URIs sanitized and validated against D1 registry
- Metadata shows
availability: "enabled"when flag is true - Comprehensive audit trail in consent form display
Security Improvements
- User Binding: Consent form now requires authenticated Descope principal
- Tenant Validation: User's workspace must match OAuth client's permitted tenant
- URL Validation: Invalid redirect URIs rejected before consent form processes
- Membership Check: All external OAuth flows verify user belongs to requested workspace
- No Default Tenancy: Customer Zero is no longer a fallback — must be explicitly bound
Testing Coverage
All 8 new tests pass in oauth.test.ts:
- ✓ Authorize page renders when enabled
- ✓ Redirect URI validation enforces HTTPS/HTTP only
- ✓ User tenant binding required for public OAuth
- ✓ Tenant mismatch rejected with 403
- ✓ Metadata reports "enabled" when flag is true
- ✓ Metadata reports "private_alpha" when flag is false
- ✓ Private alpha token exchange still blocked in test
- ✓ Private alpha client credentials still blocked in test
Deployment Path
Phase 1: Test Validation
# Set flag in test environment
MCP_EXTERNAL_OAUTH_ENABLED = "true" # in [env.test]
# Deploy to test
pnpm release:core --env test --service core --dry-run false
# Validate all 20 checkpoints in P0_OAUTH_TEST_DEPLOYMENT_CHECKLIST.md
Phase 2: Production Go-Live
# Set flag in production environment (only after test passes)
MCP_EXTERNAL_OAUTH_ENABLED = "true" # in [env.prod]
# Deploy to production
pnpm release:core --env prod --service core --dry-run false \
--confirm_production true \
--test_release_evidence "<successful test workflow URL>"
# Run production smoke tests (first 10 minutes)
# Monitor metrics for 24 hours
Phase 3: Marketplace Activation
After 24 hours of stable production operation:
- Publish IntegrateWise MCP connector package
- Publish AI surface connector package
- Enable marketplace catalog discovery
- Mark connectors as Available/Beta/Coming

What's Next
After this P0 is deployed and validated:
- P1: Test deployment (all 20 validation checkpoints pass)
- P2: Production deployment (with test evidence requirement)
- P3: External v0 proof-of-concept (blank app → IntegrateWise OAuth → read workspace)
- P4: Marketplace submission (publish MCP + AI connector packages)
- P5: Work-Bench integration (internal teams connect via marketplace)
- P6: Further UI development (now that OAuth is live)
The blocker is removed. The platform is ready for external integration.
Key Decision: Single-Tenant v1
This implementation uses a single-tenant model for v1:
- Each OAuth client is bound to exactly one workspace
- User's workspace must match client's registered workspace
- No multi-tenant clients or workspace selection
Future Enhancement (v2):
- Support multi-tenant clients with explicit workspace selection
- Allow users to choose which workspace to authorize for
- Extend
OAuthClientwithallowed_tenants: string[]array
This keeps v1 simple, secure, and deployment-ready.
